The AVF can also lead to a lessening of the idea of the citizen-Soldier. It has the tendency to create a separate warrior class that views itself as somehow separate from and different than the general populous. This is a great benefit of the National Guard and Reserve forces but even they have become harder for Soldiers to sustain both their service and a civilian career as they have been heavily called on to deploy in the last 17 years.
